Creating a Registry

How does the Wedding Republic Gift Registry work?
Wedding Republic allows you to create a gift registry that is uniquely yours. You can choose from our list or add your own gifts. The photo, price and description are totally customizable by you or your registry admin (perhaps you’ve delegated this task to a bridesmaid or groomsman).
Your list is a visual representation of your ideal gifts. When guests make their purchase (contribute cash towards your gifts) they can see what their contribution is, unlike the traditional cash in the envelope approach.

Through our Puzzle Pieces feature (patent pending), you can also register for more expensive gifts and break them apart into a puzzle. Guests can then buy a piece of the puzzle making big ticket items more accessible and allowing them to chip in on the same gift without knowing or even coordinating with each other.
Once your registry is set up and guests begin to contribute, Wedding Republic will facilitate the online transactions in a safe and secure manner.

What happens once a puzzle piece is purchased in its entirety?
Once the puzzle has been completed, the image will grey out and no longer be available for purchase.

What happens if the puzzle isn’t completed?
Of course you will still receive all of the contributions made once you have closed the registry and initiated the collection process to withdraw your funds.

Collecting Your Funds

How do we collect our funds?
When you initially set up your account, you are asked to choose a closing date. This will be the last day that guests can make contributions to your gift list (we recommend keeping the registry open for a few days after the wedding to allow guests more time to make their contributions). The date must be after your wedding day and can be postponed should you choose to extend it.
Once your registry has closed, you will be contacted by Wedding Republic to verify your personal information. You can choose either of the following methods to collect your funds:

• Provide your banking information so Wedding Republic can deposit the funds directly to your account. This is our preferred method as it is secure and highly traceable.
• If you chose not to disclose your banking information, we ask that you verify your personal information and a cheque will be sent to your mailing address.

What should I do if the wedding is cancelled?
If the wedding is cancelled, you must contact us in order to close your account and initiate the withdrawal process. Wedding Republic will not facilitate refunds for your guests and the responsibility will be yours to address these requests.

Updating, Monitoring and Editing Your Registry

How do I track everything?
You can track purchases by logging into My Registries or through your Facebook account. Be sure to monitor your registry regularly and update it accordingly. Visit our blog for more tips on deciding how much you should register for.

Can I change the wedding information such as date, display message etc?
You can login to your registry at any time and update or modify your personal information as well as the information about the wedding, the photo and display message to the guests.

Can I change or add the gifts?
You can only change gifts that have not been purchased yet, but are able to add new items at anytime. Other gifts that have not yet been purchased can be changed or removed at anytime.  

How do I remove a gift?

Login to your registry and choose to edit your gift list. Note that the items on your gift list are highlighted green. To remove it, simply click on the gift and the highlight will disappear (meaning it is no longer on your list).

Why Use Wedding Republic?
The bride and groom have chosen Wedding Republic for their registry to show you what they really want. It allows them to choose them more than the traditional gifts available at other retailers. The gifts chosen for this registry reflect their personalities and how they want to live their lives together, making your contribution more meaningful allowing you to contribute towards their hopes and dreams

Why wouldn't we just give the couple money at their wedding?
Giving the couple a gift through Wedding Republic is a way to simplify the already hectic lives of an engaged couples. Using the registry means they won’t have to stress about monitoring, tracking or counting cash at the wedding or worry about your contribution getting stolen. One less thing to worry about on their big day will be greatly appreciated.

Browsing & Buying

How do I find a registry?
Through the Search section of Wedding Republic you can find a registry by typing one of the couple’s last names or by searching for their custom url.

Do I have to create an account to browse the registry?
Absolutely not! You are welcome to peruse the registry at your leisure and we only ask for minimal personal information if you choose to make a purchase. Your personal information will not be shared.

How do I select a gift?
It’s easy, just click on your selection and click on “buy gift”, if you would like to contribute to more than one gift you can continue shopping until you’re happy with the amount you’ve contributed. When you’re ready to finalize your purchase, simply click the purchase button and follow the steps.
Keep in mind that more expensive gifts are sometimes broken up into a puzzle by the happy couple. In this case, just select the Puzzle Piece you’d like to purchase and follow the same steps!

You may also notice that some of the gifts are ranked from their top picks to stuff they’d like but can live without. But don’t let that be your only deciding factor! If an unranked gift has more meaning for you, go for it!

How do I make a Payment?
Once you’re ready to finalize your purchase, simply fill in the required information and you will be directed to a secure payment gateway. All major credit cards including Visa, MasterCard and American Express are accepted. Payment is safe and secure. WeddingRepublic.com is using 256-bit SSL certification to provide encryption between your web browser and out web server so that personal information can be transmitted over the internet securely. You can feel confident that your financial transaction will be conducted in a safe and secure manner.

How will they know that I’ve made my purchase?
Once you’ve picked a gift, you can add a best wishes note to be sent to the couple. You can keep it a surprise until the wedding day, or send it immediately. Upon closing the registry, the couple will also receive a complete list of guests and purchases.

Payment, Fees and Security

What kinds of payment do you accept?
Once you’re ready to finalize your purchase, simply fill in the required information and you will be directed to a secure payment gateway. All major credit cards including Visa, MasterCard and American Express are accepted.

Will I receive a confirmation for my purchase?
Once you have completed your purchase, you will receive an email confirmation that you can print for your records.

Is Wedding Republic a secure website?

Do you store my credit card information?
No, we do not.

Do you provide my personal information to other companies for marketing purposes?
No we do not. We respect your privacy and security. Your information will be used only for the specific transaction you have requested and ensuring that your experience with us is a pleasant one.

How much is the service fee and what is it for?
The service fee is 4.5% of your total contribution. This is typically less than the cost of cost of shipping, handling, and wrapping on a regular gift. The fee covers administrative and other costs associated with maintaining the couple’s wedding registry. To ensure they are receiving the best possible experience, there is a lot that happens at Wedding Republic headquarters!

What happens when I make a contribution?
Once your purchase has been processed, your contribution is held in a secure non-interest bearing account on behalf of the bride and groom. Once the couple has closed their registry, they will be able to collect the funds contributed by you and other guests.

What happens if the wedding is cancelled?
If the wedding is cancelled, the couple will close the registry early and withdraw the funds. Wedding Republic will not facilitate refunds and, as is the case with most wedding registries, the couple is responsible for address guest requests for refunds.

What are these Puzzles I keep reading about?

The Puzzle Piece feature (patent pending) is a great way to post a more expensive gift item and allow your guests to contribute towards the same gift by buying a piece of the puzzle. The hassle one person collecting money so a group can chip in on the same gift is gone! Guests don’t have to coordinate or even know each other to contribute the same gift.

What happens if the Puzzle isn’t completed?

The couple still gets all of the contributions towards that particular gift, but may choose to pay the rest themselves or use the money towards something else.

What are some great gift ideas?

The key is to get creative! Take stock of what you and your significant other have and pick items that your really want, will really use and that fits your lifestyle. If you’re never going to use a crystal punch bowl or china serving platter, don’t register for one. If you love camping... maybe a couple’s sleeping bag is on your list of must-haves. Here are a few suggestions:

The Big Stuff

Go big! The Puzzle Piece feature lets you register for big ticket items, allowing guests to contribute to a piece of your gift puzzle. Need a car or money for a down payment on a house? How about that new big screen TV you've been eyeing? The possibilities are limitless and chipping in has never been so easy.

Tired of Traditional?

Register for things that fit your lifestyle, not just stuff for the sake of getting... well... stuff! And what if you do need some of those more traditional gifts? You can still register for them but aren’t limited to the more conventional, big box stores like Macy’s or The Bay. Instead, you can shop around getting browsing the big national stores and the boutique retailers that are locally owned and operated!
